Fans criticize artwork quality as Game of Thrones NFTs sell out in 7 hours

January 12, 2023
The Game of Thrones community has been buzzing with excitement over the recent release of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the NFT marketplace Nifty's. The "Build Your Realm" collection sold out in just seven hours on the day of its release, despite some criticism from fans over the poor design of the NFT artwork. The "Game of Thrones: Build Your Realm Hero Box" NFT collection contained story card NFTs, resource card collectibles, and a single "Game of Thrones" Hero Avatar NFT. These NFTs have generated a significant amount of activity in the secondary market, with Hero Boxes and Hero Avatars being sold for Ethereum (ETH) on OpenSea.
According to statistics from cryptoslam.io, the GoT NFT collection holds the 13th position in terms of sales in the last 24 hours, with over $500,000 in 24-hour sales volume and almost a thousand buyers. The CEO and co-founder of Nifty's, Jeff Marsilio, expressed his excitement over the project, stating that their teams have worked tirelessly in order to create an interactive collecting experience for Game of Thrones fans to help them continue their journey within the beloved GOT universe.

However, despite the excitement generated by the release of these NFTs, a lot of fans have taken to social media to voice their dissatisfaction with the character designs and the artwork, with some calling the characters "poorly drawn" and others making fun of the peculiar design of the characters' hands, which look like "salad fingers". Twitter has been especially active with varying opinions on the project, with one of the biggest NFT influencers, Loopify, going as far as to call it the "worst thing that he's ever seen".
Despite the criticism, the overall NFT marketplace remains optimistic about the project, stating that they have been working diligently to create an interactive collecting experience for all the Game of Thrones fans across the world. Since its launch two days ago, the project has generated a total volume of over 431 ETH (~$617,000) and is still growing at a fast pace. Although it has not yet made it to the trending list on OpenSea, the social media community seems to have taken the "terrible" artwork fairly well and found the humor in it.

Overall it appears that the Game of Thrones NFTs have been a success so far, with the "Build Your Realm" collection selling out within just seven hours and generating a significant amount of secondary market activity. A second collection, or series 2, is already reported to be in the works according to an initial launch preview from Warner Bros and it remains to be seen how the companies will respond to the criticism from the Twitter community over the abysmal artwork.
